Bharti, Vodafone Kick Off iPhone Sales in India

Following the agreements signed in early August between Apple and Indian telecom operators Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Essar for iPhone sales in India, the two telecom operators both launched iPhone on August 22, the Times of India reported.

According to the same source, the 8GB iPhone is priced at around 31,000 Rupees (US$714.5; US$1=43.4 Rupees) and 16GB model at 36,100 Rupees (US$832.1). Bharti Airtel is India's largest telecom operator by subscriber number, boasting over 75 million subscribers as of the end of July, according to Dow Jones. Vodafone Essar, on the other hand, had a subscriber base of over 49 million at the end of June, according to the Economic Times of India.
